Value based education is the
need of the hour. It is a teaching framework in which values are taught both
explicitly in the classroom and implicitly by example. The framework consists
of teaching tools and techniques. It involves the development of the learning
environment that expresses and practices positive universal values. Children
witness and engage with those values to guide and inform their behaviour. Value
Based Education provides a successful environment for teaching and learning of
the full range of academic, social and interpersonal skills.
Values in education are the
virtues that make up a human being. Values mould our behaviour, relationships,
choices, and the sense of who we are. The greater the positivity in our values,
the greater will be the positivity in our actions. This is one of the reasons
for value based education being included in all types of learning, because it
plays a great role for student’s becoming successful in their self-chosen
careers. Education is the vehicle of knowledge, success and self-preservation.
Education not only provides a platform for success, but also the knowledge of
social conduct, character, strength and self-respect. The greatest gift that
education bestowed upon us is the set of values.
In India the National Policy on Education has laid considerable
emphasis on Value Education by highlighting the need to make education a
forceful tool for cultivation of social and moral values. The policy has stated
that in our culturally plural society education should factor universal and
eternal values oriented towards the unity and integration of our people.
The rapid developments in science and technology
and the challenges of globalization are posing additional challenges to the
education system in the world especially in India our country. This is also the
time when parental care to the children is on the wane. The adverse effects of
the media on the mental development and moral values of the younger generation
are being felt increasingly in all spheres of life. While the education system
needs to keep pace with the scientific and technological developments in terms
of building the skills and knowledge, it also needs to address the more
fundamental issues of the social and moral consequences of such unregulated
activities. In this context, the proposed conference will discuss various areas
related to inculcating, nurturing and developing values which will lead to form
a better society.
