Overview of the Department of Arabic, University of Kerala

Established in 2001 at the Kariavattom campus, the Department of Arabic at the University of Kerala has evolved into a premier center for Arabic language, literature, and research. Driven by a mission to excel nationally and globally, the department offers a wide range of academic programs—including M.A. (LOCF framework), M.Phil., Ph.D., and short-term certificate and diploma courses in Communicative Arabic and Arabic Typing. Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure such as a multimedia classroom, a full-fledged language laboratory, and a automated Koha library holding over 10,000 books, the department fosters an environment focused on critical thinking, employability, and cross-cultural communication.

The department actively engages in high-impact academic and professional endeavors, including publishing Majalla Kairala, an esteemed peer-reviewed biannual research journal, and offering official document translation and attestation consultancy services. Through active international collaborations—most notably a prestigious MoU with Qatar University offering full student scholarships—and regular national and international conferences, it bridges academic learning with global opportunities.
